PLOTTING AND PLANNING

NOVEMBER 2023

WHAT USUALLY HAPPENS AROUND this time of the year is I start plotting and planning for what comes next. In truth, I set out upon this exploratory voyage usually as early as September. It's a two part process. The first is an evaluation of what has come so far—how the year has progressed and what goals remain to finish up. It's also a time to tweak where and what I need to in order to assure the remaining year finishes up as best it can. The second part, of course, is set aside to have a focus and look at what needs doing the following year.

It can be an exciting as well as busy and even heavily focused time as I'm trying to do multiple things at once, but there is some joy in seeing what's already been accomplished. And then comes the excitement at what could be tackled in the following months. There's always more energy and excitement to take things on in the beginning until you actually get to the start of something and realize it's still going to require some effort to see through. Because of this I've learned it's always wise to temper whatever I set my sails toward with a healthy does of common sense and applied experience at what can be accomplished with anything at any given time.

So what does that mean for this year? Well, in short, I'm able to look back and see the completion of an entirely new YA trilogy, which is pretty nice. There's the multi-year, multi-book deal with Dark Horse that was signed too. And I then I was able to get some other work and world building done on some new projects. There's a bit more mixed in there too, but I don't want to give away too many spoilers at this point...

As to what is coming next on the plate 2024 is also going to be a pretty busy year. As of this writing I'll be venturing into three new worlds next year. One in which I've already written some material—this being Ascendance, and the other something completely new I'll be building from the ground up. The third is something that's further along in general, but isn't ready to announce just yet. Though I do look forward to crafting what will be mostly comic book/graphic novels for this setting in the next few months.

I look forward to sharing more about all of these and other projects in the future. And you can always check out the works page and see the current total and roster of release dates, but I think that's were I'll wrap things up for now.

Have a great November and a wonderful Thanksgiving.
